Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Lying between Downtown and the waterfront, Little Italy was long home to Italian-American families employed in the city’s tuna fishing industry. Recent decades have seen Little Italy evolve into San Diego’s most exciting foodie destination. Kettner Boulevard in Little Italy has been called Top Chef Alley for its concentration of premier eateries. Herb & Wood is one of many standouts, serving creative wood-fired dishes and classic cocktails in a rustic-chic setting. This Michelin Guide-recommended and Zagat-rated restaurant has excellent pizzas and sophisticated entrees, such as oxtail gnocchi and venison over buttermilk polenta.

Carruth Cellars Wine Garden is an urban winery and tasting room where you can sample exquisite varietals produced with grapes from Northern and Central California. The large plant-decorated wine garden at Carruth Cellars is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon and a sunset soiree.

For a traditional Italian dining experience, head to the many authentic eateries lining Little Italy’s India Street. Highlights here include the chic Sicilian restaurant Barbusa. Here, you can dine on handmade pasta and raw seafood in a hip dining space decorated with pop art.

Over on Little Italy’s Date Street, Morning Glory is a great spot to start the day with globally influenced breakfast and brunch dishes and alcohol-infused coffees. Date Street also hosts the Little Italy Mercato Farmers’ Market every Saturday morning. Vendors at the farmers’ market sell fresh produce, poultry, meat, eggs, fish, bread, and olive oil.
